Our Process

Preparing the clay

Every piece begins with the careful preparation of our signature clay blends, selected for their warmth, character and natural texture. The clay is pugged, wedged and kneaded to remove air pockets and create a smooth, consistent body, ensuring strength, workability and durability throughout the making process.

Shaped by hand

Our ceramics are formed using a combination of traditional techniques, including hand building, jigger-jolly and wheel throwing production and porcelain slip casting. Each method is chosen to suit the design, balancing craftsmanship and functionality.

Hand building creates unique forms with a distinctly handmade character, while jigger-jolly and wheel throwing enables precise, repeatable shapes. For more intricate pieces, liquid porcelain slip is poured into plaster molds to capture fine detail and delicate forms.

Clay reclamation

Sustainability is an important part of our studio practice. Unused clay, trimmings and offcuts are carefully collected and reclaimed for future production rather than discarded.

The clay is rehydrated, processed and passed through a pug mill to restore a smooth, workable plasticity, eliminating waste and yet maintaining quality.

Trimming and drying

As each piece reaches the leather-hard stage, it is carefully trimmed to refine its shape and to enhance both form and function. The pieces are then left to dry slowly and evenly. Patience at this stage is essential, helping prevent cracking or warping before firing.

Bisque firing

Once completely dry, the ceramics undergo their first kiln firing. Known as the bisque firing, this stage partially vitrifies the clay while leaving it porous enough to absorb glaze, preparing it for the next transformation.

Glazing

Every glaze recipe is carefully developed and tested in-house to achieve the distinctive palette, textures and finishes that define our collections.

Glazes are applied by dipping, pouring, brushing or spraying, creating depth and variation while ensuring a consistent, high-quality result.

Glaze firing

The glazed ceramics return to the kiln for a second firing. During this process, the glaze melts and fuses to the clay body, creating a durable, food-safe surface suitable for everyday use.

As the kiln cools, the final colours and finishes emerge, often with subtle variations that make every piece unique.
